ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT

GENERAL SUMMARY
To perform a variety of responsible and confidential economic development and administrative duties
in support of the Director of Economic Development; and to provide general information and
assistance to the public.
SUPERVISION
General supervision is provided by the Director of Economic Development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. All behaviors comply with the Hamilton County Personnel Policy.
2. Provides direct administrative support to the Director of Economic Development.
3. Assist in preparing items for Economic Development Director for meetings; participates in
assembling Economic Development packets; and draft minutes of Economic Development meetings.
4. Interfaces with prospects, allies, commercial real estate brokers, and developers to assist the
Director of Economic Development.
5. Maintains working knowledge of local industrial, office and retail real estate sites for sale or
lease.
6. Develops marketing materials to promote specific economic development efforts in Hamilton
County.
7. Develops graphic presentations for potential new businesses. Develops electronic and written
presentations to respond inquiries and requests for information. May include public speaking for
certain presentations.
8. Conducts research to gather data on Town statistics or demographics for internal and external
use.
9. Participates in traditional business retention and expansion efforts.
10. Organizes participation in regional and local career fairs and county wide events.
11. Prepares project displays, sets up and breaks down displays, and staffs events.
12. Assist in maintenance of the Economic Development website page and social media page.
13. Able to work nights as needed. Dependent on project and events.
14. Manage, maintain, engage, update, and post to Hamilton County Development social media page.
15. Manage the account receivable, monthly reporting and updates to the RLF loan account profile.
16. Create and distribute year end reporting documentation for RLF Loans.
17. Manage, coordinate, and create correspondence for County-wide Hotel/Motel Grant Program.
18. Update, populate, and maintain businesses, events, and community listings in Travel Iowa and
Boone Forks website for Hamilton County.
19. Assist in processing documentation and application for Greater Financial Literacy of Hamilton
County AvailaKares program.
20. Provide communication of county programs and events to the public.
21. Respond to questions and inquiries from the public regarding to county wide programs and
events.
22. Attend community events and ribbon cutting on behalf of Hamilton County Development.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist in researching and compiling data for special projects.
2. Set up meeting rooms for meetings as required.
3. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED. Experience working in Public Administration, Business Administration,
or related economic development field, non-profit organization etc.
EXPERIENCE
At least one year of experience in economic development, public relations/marketing, social medial
marketing or a related field. Working knowledge of non-profit organizational setup and some graphic
design work.
Any equivalent combination of education and work experience for this job may be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
• Applicable State and Local laws.
• English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
• Practices and procedures involved in organizing various types of records and
information.
• Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment including Microsoft Word, Microsoft
Excel, Canva, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Grant writing experience a plus
• Working knowledge of account receivable for record keeping and monthly & year end
reporting.
• Have strong written and communication skills
Skill in:
• Typing and transcribing a variety of correspondence and notes of meetings.
• Operating various types of office equipment including facsimile machines, photocopiers, adding
machines, digital recorders, and computers using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
Ability to:
• Perform responsible secretarial work involving the use of independent judgment and personal
initiative.
• Work cooperatively with other departments, Town officials and outside agencies.
• Understand the organization and operation of Hamilton County Development and of outside agencies
as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities.
• Compile and maintain bookkeeping records for RLF loans and Hotel/Motel Grant Program.
• Maintain confidential data and information for executive staff.
• Independently prepare routine correspondence and memorandums.
• Work independently in the absence of supervision.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of
work including Town officials, management staff, employees, and the general public.
• Pass a medical physical examination and drug test
