Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The School of Education (SOE) in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a term Lecturer teaching faculty position in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Literacy and/or General Foundations for Spring 2025. Initial appointment length is one semester. Renewal parameters are determined by performance and department need.
We seek a dynamic, innovative, and enthusiastic colleague who can support the development of pre-service elementary teachers. The successful candidate should demonstrate a knowledge of and commitment to evidence-based reading and writing methodology, Science of Reading, professional literacy standards such as Common Core ELA and NCTE, and the landscape of current elementary literacy policies and practices.
Specifically, we are looking for a faculty colleague to teach two courses in the following areas: (a) elementary literacy; (b) undergraduate Foundations of Education courses; or c) Introduction to Elementary Teaching course (EDUC 245).
Required Minimum Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree in Elementary Education or a closely related field
+ Completion of a teacher preparation program
+ Licensure/certification (in any state) in elementary education
+ Three years of experience as an elementary school teacher
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience preparing/supporting elementary school teachers
+ Evidence of effective teaching at the post-secondary level
+ More than three years as a successful elementary teacher
+ Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to evidence-based reading and writing methodology
+ Experience with the Science of Reading and professional literacy standards, such as Iowa Academic Standards for ELA and Literacy
