Job Description:
Logistics and Support Services at Iowa State University is seeking an E-commerce and Logistics Coordinator to join the ISU Surplus operation. ISU Surplus handles the management of the university’s end-of-life assets through resale, repurposing, or recycling/disposal. In addition to operating a physical store, ISU Surplus sells items on online platforms, including Govdeals.com.
Key responsibilities for this role include receiving products arriving in the warehouse, preparing items for sale, stocking, cashiering, and managing inventory in backstock areas. The Coordinator will assist with online sales by creating listings, fulfilling orders, and managing inventory. This role involves identifying, researching, and evaluating items to determine if they should be resold, recycled, or disposed of in compliance with state guidelines. Other tasks include testing items for functionality, determining pricing, creating accurate online listing descriptions, taking and editing photos, and posting updates on social media. This position requires handling items with forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and lifting/carrying as needed, as well as tracking university assets.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of both brick-and-mortar and online retail operations, strong computer skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and organizational abilities. Experience or interest in IT/electronics, vehicles, furniture, scientific equipment, and clothing is a plus. Strong customer service skills are essential for success in this role.

The variety of items you may handle is extensive: vehicles, clothing, office furniture, real estate, lab equipment, and specialized scientific items. Additionally, you will experience the excitement of auction sales and engage with a large customer base. This position offers a fantastic blend of hands-on retail and online sales, with increasing focus on expanding online sales channels, making it a rewarding role for those eager to take on new challenges and showcase Iowa State’s unique assets.
Hours are Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
This position will be hired as a Logistics Coordinator III.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
