Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in the department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine at Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Emphasis of this position will be veterinary toxicology (primarily food animal) with exposure to other animal species.
The position provides interested veterinarians with a solid, broad base in toxicology through diagnostic casework, field investigations, course work, seminars, teaching, and research. The person in this position will gain clinical and applied research experience, while working with clients of the ISU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, ISU Veterinary Field Services unit, and ISU Food Animal and Camelid Hospital. The primary roles of this position are to provide high-quality diagnostic coordination of toxicology and nutrition-based cases, conduct applied research, and to assist in the instruction of veterinary students within the ISU CVM core curriculum and the department’s professional program. Responsibilities also include communication with laboratory clientele and performance of field investigations.
The goal of this position is to produce a well-trained, board eligible toxicologist that functions effectively in a variety of capacities that ensure human, animal and environmental safety and who are qualified to pursue careers in academia, industry or government. This position will allow the individual to pursue board certification as a veterinary toxicology Diplomate with the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology (ABVT) and/or a graduate degree (MS or PhD). The candidate is expected to publish applicable research, case studies, or case series to support the board certification process. The individual selected for this position will be formally and informally trained in the clinical veterinary toxicology with the latest tools and techniques associated with analytical diagnostics while also learning appropriate treatments and mitigation strategies associated with poisonings to support veterinarians and producers in the United States.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
– Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary college- Valid U.S. Driver’s License
– State of Iowa Veterinary License
Preferred Qualifications:
– Experience with food animal agriculture and medicine
– One or more years of clinical practice
– Experience with diagnostic coordination of toxicology and nutrition-based cases
