Job Description:

JOB FUNCTION:

As a Construction Technician, you will play a key role in supporting various construction projects by providing technical assistance, operating construction equipment, and ensuring that construction activities proceed safely and efficiently. Your expertise and commitment to quality work will contribute to the success of our construction endeavors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

– Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using ruler, pencil, chalk.
– Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
– Verify trueness of structure, using plumb bob, level, and laser.
– Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, and powers saw
– Study specifications in blueprints, sketches or drawings to determine dimensions and materials required.
– Assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props using hand tools, and wood screws, nails, or glue.
– Build or repair cabinets, frameworks, floors, and other wooden fixtures.
– Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level in a safe/OSHA approved manner.
– Remove damaged or defective parts of fixtures and structures and repair or replace, using hand tools.
– Maintain records, document actions and present written reports.
– Finish surfaces of wood, or wallboard, using paint, and hand tools.
– Inspect ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, and woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures.
– Work with and/or remove hazardous materials.
– Construct forms and for pouring concrete.
– Perform minor plumbing, welding and/or concrete mixing work.
– Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine what kind of maintenance is needed, using the correct equipment and tools
– Install equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications
– Ability to troubleshoot causes of operating errors
– Other duties as assigned

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

– Must be at least 18 years old or older
– Must be able to work some weekends
– High school diploma or equivalent.
– Vocational training or relevant certifications in construction technology is helpful but not required
– Basic math skills are required
– Ability to work in a fast paced environment
– Uses good judgement to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one
– Ability to work with others in a team
– Good interpersonal skills
– Good verbal communication skills
– Excellent attention to detail
– Ability to work with limited supervision

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

– Repetitive climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of heavy materials
– Frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds

TYPICAL EQUIPMENT USED:

– Hammer, tape measure, utility knife, level and laser
– Screwdrivers, chisels, flat bar, framing square
– Nail puller, tin snips, socket and wrench set
– Skill saw, Sawzall, impact driver, power drill
– Sliding compound miter saw, table saw, sanders, hammer drills

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

– Exposure to varying temperatures

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

– Must be able to travel overnight and up to four nights per week and some weekends
– Some remodel work will require late Saturday night and Sunday work. Approximately one (1) weekend per month.
– A typical work week starts Monday morning at 6 AM. A minimum of 40 hours per week is required with a potential of 46 hours per week.
– Carpooling with co-workers will occur. A truck or van is required to haul materials to the worksite. A truck or van is not required at first but eventually you will need to own one.
– A per diem is available to cover food expenses when traveling.
– You are required to provide your own general construction hand tools. Tools that wear out will be replaced by Fareway.
