Job Description:

The Director works with all educator preparation programs at Iowa State University (ISU) to ensure that requirements for teacher licensure, and for specific endorsements in the State of Iowa, are met through the completion of curricula in various majors. This includes the review of all Educator Preparation policies, procedures, and programs and the development of processes necessary for audits /reviews that ensure successful accreditation by the State of Iowa.

Housed in the School of Education (SOE), within the College of Human Sciences (CHS), and reporting to the Director of the School of Education, the Director of Educator Preparation Programs is a member of the School of Education Leadership team, is an ex-officio member of the CHS Curriculum Committee and an ex-officio member of the School of Education Undergraduate and Graduate Curriculum Committees. The Director serves as Chair of the ISU Educator Preparation Coordinating Council (EPCC), a governing body that oversees policies and practices related to educator preparation at Iowa State. The EPCC is made up of representatives from each Iowa State unit or program that offers an educator preparation track; the Director collaborates with and serves as a resource for, educator preparation faculty, staff, and students across the university.

In addition, the Director oversees the School of Education Office of Teacher Education Services to ensure compliance with the required experiential components of educator preparation in the State of Iowa and alignment with requirements for licensure. The Director may participate in the interviewing of Educator Preparation (EPP) faculty and will coordinate and facilitate meetings for ISU Educator Preparation faculty.

The ISU Director of Educator Preparation Programs works with the School of Education Director of Undergraduate Programs (DUGE) and the School of Education Director of Graduate Programs (DOGE) to review course offerings and scheduling; this includes work with K-12/Secondary Program Coordinators and advisers. The ISU Director of Educator Preparation works closely with Department Chairs and Associate Deans of respective Colleges: Agriculture and Life Sciences, Human Sciences, and Liberal Arts and Sciences, as a consultant for curriculum related to educator preparation requirements for licensure.

Leads ISU educator preparation programs through the state approval process, program renewal processes, and continuous improvement processes (including program evaluation), to ensure implementation of compliance requirements, unit policies and procedures, and best practice.

Serves on the Regents Alternative Pathway to Iowa (RAPIL) Governance Team; facilitates partnerships and relationships with cognizant government officials, education policymakers, community leaders, school-based personnel, and leaders of other educator preparation programs. The successful candidate will have administrator experience with supervision of a large team; a successful record of building relationships with a range of constituencies (e.g. elected officials and Department of Education officials); strong skills in relationship building; and the ability to plan programs that connect PK-12 school and higher education.
