This critical leadership role is responsible for overseeing the university’s housing system, including 19 residence halls and 3,400 apartment units, shaping the future of on-campus living for over 12,000 students. Key Responsibilities:
Housing System Direction
+ Lead the operation of ISU’s student housing system, which includes 19 residence halls and 3,400 apartment units.
+ Manage the annual operating budget and develop multi-year financial strategies.
+ Drive strategic planning, facilities management, occupancy management, and the staffing process to optimize operations.
+ Set long and short-term organizational goals and monitor the effectiveness of housing programs and operations.
Policy and Procedure Development
+ Develop policies and procedures for student housing, focusing on financial management, human resources, and residence life.
+ Lead crisis management planning and ensure smooth operation of housing services during emergencies.
+ Create an inclusive housing environment to enhance student life and academic success.
Stakeholder Representation
+ Serve as the key representative of the Department of Residence, liaising with university administrators, students, parents, and the broader Ames community.
+ Collaborate with university leaders and stakeholders to foster partnerships that support academic success and a positive campus experience.
Management Staff Supervision
+ Oversee and mentor the management team responsible for housing operations, including facilities management, residence life, and occupancy.
+ Establish department goals and drive performance through effective leadership and staff development.
+ Foster a culture of collaboration, motivation, and professional growth within the department.
Level Guidelines- May provide input into the strategic planning process- Operationalizes annual goals and objectives from strategic plan with department(s) to develop annual departmental objective and action plans- Develops and recommends institution policy within area of functional or operational expertise- Scope of influence may be a function, a large sub function, or multiple sub functions- Manages staff and sets priorities for department(s)- Typically has sufficient staff to have multiple Managers or Supervisors as direct reports- Has full management responsibility for direct reports, specifically the authority to hire, fire, and counsel- Understands key drivers of financial performance for operational areas- Provides substantial input to the budgeting process- Responsible for budgetary decisions according to guidelines within functional area- Recommends financial decisions that impact area of responsibility
