Preferred Qualifications:Experience in troubleshooting and completing services requests for vacant and occupied spaces.
License at journeyman level in one or more areas of electrical, plumbing, or heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
Experience performance maintenance in a commercial setting.
Job Description:
Join the Iowa State University team as a Facilities Mechanic III for the Department of Residence, where you’ll play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing our campus residence facilities. In this dynamic position, you’ll handle both scheduled and unscheduled advanced maintenance tasks, including general maintenance, carpentry, electrical work, HVAC systems, plumbing, and more. Your work ensures that our buildings and equipment remain in optimal condition, contributing to a safe and pleasant environment for all.
As a Facilities Mechanic III, you will conduct preventive maintenance, perform emergency repairs, and inspect various systems and components to determine their functional status. Your role will involve working with a range of systems, from electrical and plumbing to HVAC and power plant equipment. You’ll also have the opportunity to mentor and coach other technicians, maintain compliance with safety procedures, and assist with project management. This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in multiple trades and a commitment to keeping our facilities running smoothly.
Scheduled Hours: Monday – Friday from 7:30am – 4:00pm
Location: Helser Hall
Under general supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the repairing, servicing, and maintaining of buildings and electrical, mechanical and plumbing equipment.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
+ Performs preventive maintenance on motors, pumps, and other equipment, and maintains appropriate records.
+ Constructive sanitizers, installs oxygen outlets and system according to engineering specifications.
+ Performs preventive maintenance and emergency repair work.
+ Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams, and equipment specifications.
+ Performs work in related crafts areas as assigned.
+ Assists in directing the work of others.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Knowledge of the hazards involved and safety precautions necessary in the electrical, mechanical and plumbing trades.
+ Knowledge of work practices, methods, and processes utilized in the electrical, mechanical and plumbing trade.
+ Knowledge of preventive maintenance necessary for equipment and ability to maintain appropriate records.
+ Knowledge of proper lifting and bending techniques.
+ Ability to operate safely the tools and equipment used in the electrical, mechanical and plumbing trades.
+ Ability to interpret blueprints, diagrams and equipment specifications.
+ Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
+ Ability to work in a variety of environments including confined spaces, low light areas, at heights, with exposure to temperature extremes.
+ Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
