+ Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
+ Under general direction of Supervisor, coordinates activities for specific service line.
+ Set up and operate all equipment used in the operating room arena.
+ Communicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary team
+ Communicates with OR and SPD staff to ensure coordination of supply and instrumentation needs.
+ Participates as a preceptor and mentor while providing education / orientation to staff, students, and others.
+ Resource for unit specific core competencies.
+ Actively assists Clinical Resource Nurse with department orientation goals
+ Actively assists patient, families, and visitors with various needs to enhance customer service.
+ Helps ensure compliance with regulatory agencies in meeting or exceeding Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) and Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrument (AAMI) Standards
+ Reads and accesses OR schedule a minimum of two days ahead and also daily at OR schedule to help trouble shoot if there are conflicts with instruments/equipment/implants/supplies
+ Maintains communication with both OR and SPD staff to ensure coordination of supply and instrumentation needs.
+ Ensures adherence to standardized sterilization procedures
+ Works with staff working in Center Core to maintain supplies/equipment/implants and instrumentation in Center Core and Rooms
+ Assists with annual/bi-annual inventory process and counts
+ Work with surgeons to determine contents needs for procedure.
+ Collaborates with Surgical Services Leadership, evaluates opportunities for supply standardization and inventory control
+ Verify implants have been ordered and are available in the department for upcoming cases
+ Assists in orientation of new Surgical Services employees, Surgical Technician, PT, and nursing students, and observational people
+ Assists Surgical Services Leadership with evaluation of staff
+ Make daily staff assignments based on acuity of patient, procedure length, complexity and staff experience.
+ Performs other assigned duties as needed
+ Maintains regular and reliable attendance
+ Can function in the scrub role, setting up sterile field and assisting physician with surgical procedures
+ Provides age and culturally appropriate care
+ Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
+ Audit chart for SCIP protocol
+ Assist with patient rounding in ACS
+ Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
+ Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
+ Licensed as a Registered Nurse and authorized by the State of Iowa to practice nursing or has active multistate license approved by the Nurse Licensure Compact.
+ Achievement of Baccalaureate degree in nursing within 6 years of hire if hired after January 1, 2014.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) training, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
+ Mandatory Reporter training or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
+ Member AORN within 12 months
+ Within twenty-four months of hire obtain certification in clinical area (CNOR- Certified Nurse Operating Room). If currently enrolled in bachelor program, the certification will need to be completed within twenty-four months of graduation.
+ Organizational Requirements:
+ Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.
+ Preferred Qualifications:
+ Baccalaureate degree in nursing.
+ Professional certification in nursing specialty.
