## General Information

This position is located in our Water Meter/Lab Services division of the Water and Pollution Control department. The Water Meter Division maintains all of the water meters throughout the City. While the division is not responsible for the utility billing, they maintain the meters that serve as the cash registers for both the Water and Sewer utilities, providing the basis for billing the majority of all water and sewer services provided by the City. It also includes the Cross-Connection Control Program that safeguards against contaminants from a customers property flowing backwards into the distribution system. The division is physically located in the Technical Services Complex located at 300 E 5th Street near Bandshell Park. In addition to the Water Meter Supervisor, the division includes three Water Meter Repair Technicians, a Cross-connection Control Coordinator, and the divisions Principal Clerk.

The City of Ames is conducting a recruitment to establish a Civil Service eligibility list for the Principal Clerk position. The list will be valid for up to one year from the date of certification by the Ames Civil Service Commission and may be used to fill one or more vacancies in this classification. In addition, City of Ames Civil Service employees who have previously held Civil Service status in this classification and are interested in voluntarily demoting or laterally transferring into the current vacancy must submit their application by the deadline.

Under general supervision of the Water Meter Division Supervisor, this position plans, implements and carries out support staff functions, complex administrative assignments, and projects; applies all departmental, customer service, and record-keeping policies to daily work; exercises sound judgment in applying departmental and City procedures; performs related work as required like admin support to the Laboratory Services division.

This position is responsible for producing high-quality detailed work while also managing competing work demands. A key component of the job is providing excellent customer service in person, over the phone, and via email to internal and external customers and maintaining a high level of confidentiality. Consistently accurate and efficient work output is a major focus of the job.

The hours are generally Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

***In order to be considered for this position, all applicants must submit their online application by the deadline listed on this posti***
